Karnataka Deputy CM has said that the cabinet will decide on Thursday whether to allow Bengaluru to host IPL 2026 games

The Karnataka cabinet will meet on Thursday to decide on whether the m Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru should host IPL games in the future. A tragedy that unfolded ouside the venue following Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) maiden IPL trophy win saw 11 people die and several injured in a stampede. Following the incident, the stadium was deemed unsafe to host large events and matches, including World Cup were / have been moved out of the city.

Will Bengaluru host RCB games in IPL 2026?

As per Times of India, the Karnataka cabinet will meet in Belagavi on Thursday to take a decision on whether the Chinnaswamy stadium should be allowed to host RCB’s matches in IPL 2026. Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar told reporters that the Karnataka State Cricket Associaition (KSCA) has sought permission from the government and that they have been assured that the decision will be taken in the cabinet meeting on Thursday. The DyCM added that while the Karnataka government has no intentions of stopping matces in the city, the crowd management needs more regulation.

They (KSCA) have sought permission to hold matches in Bengaluru, and we have assured them the matter will be decided at the cabinet meeting on Thursday. We have no intention of stopping cricket matches, but crowd management needs regulation,” DK Shivakumar said.

His remarks come after new KSCA president Venkatesh Prasad and other office bearers met CM Siddaramaiah and DKS on Wednesday seeking clearace to host matches at the Chinnaswamy stadium.

They (CM and DCM) have promised to discuss our appeal in the cabinet meeting, and in the assembly,” Prasad said.

The Karnataka Dy CM’s remarks come after reports suggested that RCB had approached Pune to host their home games. This game after the Justice Cunha Commission had deemed the Chinnaswamy stadium as unworthy of hosting big events, citing lack of safety. Last week, Shivakumar had assured that RCB’s home games will not be moved out from Bengaluru.
