Yashasvi Jaiswal is currently out of India's T20I side due to presence of Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma. Jaiswal has a point to prove.

Yashasvi Jaiswal wants to make his newfound form count. In front of a packed Vizag crowd, Jaiswal turned up in ODIs big time to become one of the few individuals to smash a century across all three formats. It was destined to be. He grinded it out and helped India clinch the ODI series against South Africa. Now, he eyes more game time, as he has made himself available for selection for Mumbai in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025.

Jaiswal’s availability has been confirmed by a senior Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) official while speaking to Cricbuzz. “He has made himself available for the SMAT campaign,” the official said on Sunday (December 7).

It is a great sign for the Shardul Thakur-led Mumbai team. They might be feeling some selection headaches, as the defending champions already have a settled opening pair of Ajinkya Rahane and Ayush Mhatre. With 325 runs at an incredible average of over 100, Mhatre’s position is unlikely to be touched. The prospect of Mhatre opening with Jaiswal would be really exciting, with Rahane dropping to one down.

Rohit Sharma is not confirmed to play…

However, there’s no confirmation from Rohit Sharma’s side, who had a terrific last couple of months. With him playing just one format (ODIs), there’s always a debate about his participation in domestic cricket. However, it is highly likely that he doesn’t partake in India’s premier T20 domestic tournament. But the same cannot be said about the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT), which would suit Rohit more. Rohit and Virat Kohli are both likely to play a few games in the 50-over competition that starts from December 24 onwards.

Mumbai are having a terrific Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) season so far. They have won five out of the six league games and have just one group game remaining. That game, against Odisha, will take place in Lucknow tomorrow (December 8). It remains to be seen if Jaiswal plays that fixture or enters the competition straight in the Super League stage, where top two teams from all four groups enter in quest for the final. The SMAT final will be played in Pune on December 18 after the venue was shifted from Indore.
