India cricket team pacer Harshit Rana has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his antics during the IND vs SA 1st ODI. The fast-bowler earned the wrath of the global body for his aggressive send-off to the South African batter in Ranchi. Rana was the pick of the pacers for India in the 1st ODI, finishing with figures of 3/65 from his 10 overs.

As per an ICC press release, the incident occurred during the 22nd over of the IND vs SA 1st ODI in Ranchi when Rana gestured in the direction of the dressing room after getting rid of Brevis. The South African batter was caught out by Ruturaj Gaikwad for 37 runs off 28 deliveries, which was studded with 2 fours and 3 sixes. Harshit has now received one demerit point and it has been added to his disciplinary record.
“Harshit was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match,” ICC said in a statement.
The offence marks Rana’s first in 24 months. He reportedly admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.
In his first over, Harshit clean bowled Ryan Rickelton and then had Quinton de Kock caught behind. India went on to win the match by 17 runs. Virat Kohli was named the Player of the Match for his 135-run knock while Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers for India, having taken 4 wickets in his spell. The IND vs SA 2nd ODI will take place in Raipur on Wednesday.
