Reports around Virat Kohli and head coach Gautam Gambhir‘s cold relationship has been doing the rounds for months now, ever since the batter’s retirement from Tests. Now, as per the latest in NDTV, it seems there is a disagreement over Kohli’s future in the ODIs as well.
Rohit Sharma to play in VHT, Virat Kohli says no
That is because, the veteran seems to have decided to skip the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which was made mandatory for all India players. On the flip side, Rohit Sharma has confirmed his availability for the same. One does not know the reason behind Kohli’s miss, but reportedly, he isn’t in favour of ‘excessive preparation’.
That puts the BCCI on a sticky wicket, since the board might not be very keen for making an exception for any player. “The issue is with the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He (Kohli) simply doesn’t want to play. When Rohit [Sharma] is also playing, how can there be an exception for one player? And what do we tell the other players? That someone is different from all of you?” the source told NDTV.
Future undecided for legend
After his 52nd ODI ton, he had opened up on the entire issue. “I’ve never been a believer in a lot of prep. All my cricket has been mental. I work physically very hard, as long as my fitness levels are up, and then you visualise batting and feeling well, it’s good,” Kohli had said.
That is not it. The report further states that selector Pragyan Ojha was sent to Raipur, the venue of the 2nd ODI between IND & SA, to mediate between the batter and coach Gautam Gambhir. Nothing can be confirmed, as of now though.
