Australia cricket team all-rounder Glenn Maxwell’s name is missing from the list of players who have registered for the IPL 2026 auction. The former Punjab Kings (PBKS) all-rounder was released by the team ahead of the mini-auction after a sub-par performance in IPL 2025. 1355 players have registered themselves for the IPL 2026 auction but Maxwell isn’t one among them.
No more Maxwell in IPL?
As per ESPNCricinfo, Maxwell’s name is absent from the long list of players who have thrown in their hats to go under the hammer on December 16. The mini-auction is scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi, with 77 slots to be filled, including 31 overseas positions, across the teams. Maxwell managed to score just 78 runs and pick 4 wickets in the 9 games that he featured in during IPL 2025. He was ruled out of the season mid-way through the league due to a fractured middle-finger. Given his sub-par performance, PBKS decided against retaining him.
Maxwell, who made his IPL debut way back in 2012, earned the nickname Big Show with his vicious hitting ability. However, he has failed to live up to the reputation in the recent years. His best IPL season came in 2014 where he managed to amass 542 runs followed by 310 runs in 2017, 513 in 2021, 301 in 2022 and 400 in 2023. He was released by RCB before the IPL 2025 mega auction and was picked up by PBKS for Rs 4.20 crore.
