Following the birth of Virat Kohli's second child in 2024, he shifted his home base to London.

At 37, Virat Kohli remains as fit and sharp as he was 10 years ago. There’s no drop in intensity. In Ranchi, Kohli was in the middle for 39.4 overs and scored 49 of his 135 runs through running. Yet, when he departed in the 43rd over, he didn’t look tired.

After his extraordinary knock ended, Dale Steyn provided the listeners with some inside information. The former South African fast bowler revealed Kohli’s fitness regime in his home base of London.

Having shared the dressing room with Kohli at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for five seasons (2008-2010 and 2019-2020), Steyn probably has good camaraderie with the former Indian captain and knows a thing or two the general public doesn’t.

Virat Kohli’s training regime in London

When Kohli lived in India, everyone knew each development. What he eats, when he sleeps and how he trains. But ever since he moved to London in 2024, no one really knows how he keeps himself match fit. Since he doesn’t play competitive cricket for long stretches, surely Kohli trains for the rigours of international cricket.

But how? No one really knew. Steyn revealed that Kohli trains four times a week. Since there are two international stadiums in London, Lord’s and the Oval, he alternates between them. He holds practice sessions, for both batting and fielding.

“Kohli goes to Lord’s and the Surrey cricket ground (The Oval) four times a week for throwdowns and fielding practice,” Steyn said live on air.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also provided Kohli with leeway. Earlier in the year, the board allowed the Indian great to prove his fitness for the 2025-26 season in London, instead of travelling to the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. You can assume that it was one of Lord’s or Oval, where Kohli cleared the same fitness test.
