The five T20Is will help India build up for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 that will be played in England and Wales in June.

The BCCI on Friday officially confirmed that the Indian women’s cricket team will host Sri Lanka for a five-match T20I series later this month, replacing the previously planned white-ball tour of Bangladesh. India were scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is away from home, but with the Bangladesh series postponed, the board moved quickly to fill the window and secure competitive cricket before the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026.

The series will run from December 21 to 30, with the first two matches taking place in Visakhapatnam and the final three in Thiruvananthapuram. The announcement marks India’s return to the shortest format for the first time since winning the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup and gives Harmanpreet Kaur and her team an important block of match practice before a busy first half of 2026.

The ACA-VDCA Stadium in Vizag will host matches on December 21 and 23, while the teams move to the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram for games on December 26, 28 and 30. India’s shift from Bangladesh to Sri Lanka comes after the BCCI informed the BCB earlier this month about postponing the tour. Although no formal explanation was issued by either board, the postponement opened a convenient slot for a home series leading into the WPL. The five-match contest is also well-timed ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled in England from June 12 to July 5 next year.

The matches will be India’s final international appearance before the WPL 2026, set to begin in early January. After that, the Women in Blue are expected to travel to Australia in February-March for another away assignment.
