Former India head coach Ravi Shastri was disappointed with the batting on Day 3 of IND vs SA 2nd Test in Guwahati

Former India cricket team coach Ravi Shastri came down heavily on Rishabh Pant and co. following their hapless performance with the bat on Day 3 of IND vs SA 2nd Test. The hosts suffered a dramatic collapse, losing 6 wickets for just 27 runs as they were bowled out for 201 runs in the 1st innings. South Africa ended Day 3 at 26/0, with a 314-run lead.

Shastri slams India’s lacklustre batting

Speaking on JioHotstar, Shastri pointed out that India won’t be happy with their batting performance, noting that the pitch wasn’t one where a team could be reduced to 142/7. He labelled the Indian batting as ordinary on a good surface in Guwahati. Former Indian batter Abhinav Mukund pointed out that there were question marks on the Indian batters after their performance in the IND vs SA 2nd Test, adding that it was imperative for India to reassess their approach before their next series.

This is still a good surface. This is not a pitch to be 142 for 7. Ordinary batting. India won’t be one bit happy. You have to put your hands up and say that’s very ordinary batting,” Shastri said.

Resuming play on 9/0, India lost wickets in a heap, with the batters struggling to keep the scoreboard ticking and keeping the South African bowlers at bay. KL Rahul was the first to depart on Day 3 as he fell to Keshav Maharaj, bringing an end to the 65-run opening partnership between him and Jaiswal. His fellow opener managed to register his maiden fifty against SA but soon became Harmer’s victim. And that triggered the collapse for India.

India lost 6 wickets and managed to score just 27 runs, exposing their weakness at home once again. Sudharsan (15), Dhruv Jurel (0), Nitish Kumar Reddy (10), Ravindra Jadeja (6), all failed to fire, leaving India reeling at 136/7 after Tea. While Kuldeep Yadav tried to hold the fort for India, it didn’t take long for the Proteas to wrap up the innings as Jansen finished with a six-wicket haul to his name.
