The Ranji Trophy 2025-26 has come to a halt now, and that means, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will commence from November 26. And on Friday, Maharashtra announced the squad for tournament, with CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad set to lead the team. The side also has Prithvi Shaw, who joined Maharashtra this year only and performed well for them.
Ruturaj Gaikwad Named SMAT Captain
That also means, a good season in the SMAT, could pave the way for Shaw’s comeback in the IPL as well, since he was ignored by all the teams at the auction last year. But then, for now he has been excellent in domestic cricket, scoring 470 runs in five matches at an average over 67.
Multiple IPL Players in Maharashtra
The team also boasts of known-faces in Rahul Tripathi, Ramakrishna Ghosh, Mukesh Choudhary, and Rajvardhan Hangargekar who ply their trade in IPL. Not to forget veteran Jalaj Saxena, who has come from Kerala, after a few seasons. Meanwhile, Maharashtra has won the trophy once, way back in 2009, and finished runners-up in 2018-19.
Their first encounter is against J&K on November 26, who too named their squad. Shubham Khajuria will lead the side, which also include India pacer Umran Malik, who is coming back after regaining full fitness, after a long time.
