The BCCI has confirmed that India Test captain Shubman Gill will travel with the rest of the team to Guwahati on Wednesday

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has provided an update on India cricket team star Shubman Gill ahead of the IND vs SA 2nd Test. The Indian captain was hospitalised in Kolkata due to a neck injury that he had suffered while attempting to play a sweep shot in the 1st Test. With the 2nd Test scheduled to begin on November 22, there were multiple speculations around Gill’s availability for the fixture. The BCCI now provided an official update.

Will Shubman Gill play IND vs SA 2nd Test?

In a press release, the BCCI confirmed that Gill will travel with the Indian team to Guwahati on November 19. The board stated that the Indian captain has been responding well to treatment. However, the decision on Gill’s participation in the IND vs SA 2nd Test will be taken in due course of time and he is being monitored by the BCCI medical staff.

Gill was kept under observation and discharged the next day. Shubman has been responding well to the medical treatment provided and will travel to Guwahati with the team on 19th November, 2025. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team and a decision on his participation in the 2nd Test will be taken accordingly,” the BCCI stated.

Meanwhile, a RevSportz report claimed that medical advice says that travel could aggravate Gill’s injury, contrary to what the BCCI has stated in its press release. The report also claims that the Indian captain will be assessed once again on November 21.

Gill was forced to retire hurt after he attempted a sweep shot on Day 2 of the IND vs SA 1st Test. While he was seen wearing a neck brace and watching on the rest of the game from the dressing room, he had to be hospitalised and was later discharged on Sunday.
