MI have retained 20 players, leaving a maximum of 5 spots, including 1 overseas, to fill the squad with an INR 7.75 crore purse.

The Mumbai Indians (MI) had an underwhelming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. But the 5-time champions have already strengthened their team before the auction. By acquiring three players via trade, MI has assembled a 20-man squad and won’t need to shop for a lot of players.

MI have released Reece Topley and Lizaad Williams, which means they’ll need another foreign fast bowler. However, there’s a catch. Since they have only one overseas slot left, they have to be smart about it. They’ll need another foreign pacer other than Trent Boult, preferably someone who bowls in the middle.

If Ryan Rickleton doesn’t work as an opener, MI needs to have keeper backups other than Robin Minz. This also means they’ll look for another opener as well. Prithvi Shaw and Vansh Bedi would be on their lists for both categories.

Since MI released two spinners, Vignesh Puthur and Karn Sharma, they’d also like to get another spinner in alongside Allah Ghafanzar and Mayank Markande.

Lastly, they’ll look to get another Indian pacer other than Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur. The former has injury concerns; the latter is a hit-and-miss bowler. Simarjeet Singh or Akash Madhwal could be one of those pacers they’ll aim for.
