An ardent Chennai Super Kings fan could have never imagined that the five-time champions will one day part ways with Ravindra Jadeja. A stalwart and perhaps the second face of the franchise after MS Dhoni, the southpaw spent 14 seasons with CSK since making his move from Kochi in 2012. Now, Jadeja has been traded to the Rajasthan Royals, along with Sam Curran, for Sanju Samson ahead of IPL 2026.
Jadeja, Dhoni discussed trade to RR
As per Cricbuzz, Jadeja and Dhoni did have a discussion about the latter’s trade to RR for IPL 2026. The report claims that both the stalwarts agreed that the move was in the best interest of everyone concerned. The report further states that Jadeja has parted ways with CSK on cordial terms.
However, an IPL CEO opined that he was shocked at the ease with which CSK parted ways with Jadeja. Dubbing the southpaw as the face of the franchise after Dhoni, the CEO wondered who could fill in his shoes in the future.
“It’s quite shocking that a franchise player who has been a star performer for CSK has been let go so easily. With MS Dhoni on the verge of retirement, who is the face of CSK? After MS, it was always Jadeja. Once MS is done, does the team have a representative face?” the CEO said.
Jadeja was retained for a sum of Rs 18 crore by CSK before the IPL 2025 auction. He will now be traded to RR for the same amount. The all-rounder has amassed 3260 runs and 170 wickets from 254 matches in his IPL career. While reports stated earlier that Jadeja had asked for captaincy from the RR management if his trade deal was through, Cricbuzz claims that the southpaw will enjoy the position of a senior and that captaincy isn’t guaranteed.
