In a latest development on IPL 2026, LSG is all set to get a new fielding coach. As per reports, the Lucknow franchise is likely to hire former Delhi player Abhay Sharma in the upcoming season. Earlier, having coached the 2020 U-19 team in the World Cup, Abhay was also associated with the Uganda team as the head coach, and is credited for taking them to their maiden T20 World Cup berth in 2024.
New coach for LSG in IPL 2026?
For a brief time, he was also associated with the Indian women’s cricket team as well. This could be one of the many changes that the LSG leadership is looking to make, after failing to make it to the playoffs in the last two years. Meanwhile, earlier Tom Moody had joined as the director of cricket, while Kane Williamson was named as the strategic director.
Has worked with Rishabh Pant
It seems, that the team would continue with Justin Langer as the head coach. “Abhay has extensive experience working with the leading Indian cricketers and that should come in handy at LSG,” said a BCCI source. Abhay also has experience of working with players like Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and others at the U-19 level.
Come the IPL 2026 retentions announcement on November 15, it would be interesting to see, which players does the management release. There have been a few players in their ranks, who missed the last season due to injuries — including Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan.
