All teams came up with some major surprises when they released their respective lists for the WPL 2026 retention, ahead of the November 27 auction, on Thursday. What came as a major shock was, that some of the members of the Indian team, who won the Women’s World Cup 2025 a few days back, were not retained as well. InsideSport takes a look at the list of all the players who were released ahead of the WPL 2026 auctions.
RCB Release Sophie Devine, Renuka Thakur
The retention by Bengaluru was on expected lines, but the only point of discussion was saving Shreyanka Patil, instead of Renuka Thakur. The off spinner has been injured for a while now, but still franchise has shown a lot of faith in the youngster, that only speaks volumes of her talent.

Gujarat Giants Let go Big Names
GG perhaps took the right call in retaining Ash Gardener and Beth Mooney, but they let go Laura Wolvaardt and even Harleen Deol. Now the team has only 9 Cr left in the purse, and they need some big names going forward.

UP Warriorz Says No to Deepti Sharma
The only logical explanation to Deepti not being retained is — she wanted to get into the auction. Otherwise no can really leave out the POTM from the Women’s World Cup. They have only retained Shweta Sehrawat, which means they could go big in the WPL 2026 auction, with a purse of 14.5 Cr.
UPW release list: Deepti Sharma (c), Alana King, Gouher Sultana, Saima Thakor, Chinelle Henry, Grace Harris, Anjali Sarvani, Kiran Navgire, Sophie Ecclestone, Arushi Goel, Kranti Goud, Tahlia Mcgrath, Chamari Athapaththu, Poonam Khemnar, Uma Chetry, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Vrinda Dinesh
MI Release Amelia Kerr
The team went with their retentions, on the expected lines. But that also means, they have one of the lowest purse going into the auction. Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Hayley Mathews, Amanjot Kaur and G Kamalini is what the MI management have retained.
MI release list: Amelia Kerr✈️, Chloe Tryon✈️, Jintimani Kalita, Pooja Vastrakar, Saika Ishaque, Yastika Bhatia (wk), Shabnim Ismail ✈️, Amandeep Kaur, S. Sajana, Keerthana Balankrishnan, Nadine de Klerk✈️, Sanskriti Gupta, Akshita Maheswari
DC to Get New Skipper in WPL 2026
Delhi retained all five, and gave them a sum of 2.2 Cr each. Which looks like the sane choice, and now they have to look at WPL Auction, to get some big names. This also signals the end of Meg Lanning in certain ways, who doesn’t play international cricket now.
DC release list: Meg Lanning (c), Alice Capsey, Sarah Bryce, Minnu Mani, Arundhati Reddy, N Charani, Shikha Pandey, Nandini Kashyap, Sneha Deepthi, Jess Jonassen, Taniyaa Bhatia, Radha Yadav, Titas Sadhu
