As per reports, the BCCI is planning to reward the India women's team with Rs 125 crore prize money if they win the World Cup 2025

The Board of Cricket for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly mulling rewarding the women’s cricket team with a mammoth prize money if they win the Women’s World Cup 2025 on Sunday. Harmanpreet Kaur and co. will be chasing history as they take on South Africa Women in the marquee clash at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. As per reports, the BCCI plans to match the prize money awarded to the men’s team when they won the T20 World Cup in 2024.

As per news agency PTI, a BCCI official claimed that the board advocates the equal pay policy for men and women, hinting that the latter could get the same prize money that the former were rewarded with after defeating South Africa in the final in 2024. However, the source added that it wasn’t right to make the announcement before the end of the final.

The BCCI supports equal pay for men and women and hence there are lot of discussions that if our girls win the World Cup, the reward won’t be anything less compared to men’s global triumph. But it isn’t nice to make an announcement before they win the Cup,” a BCCI source said.

India Women last reached the final of the tournament way back in 2017. The lost to England Women by 9 runs on that occasion. In 2022, they failed to make it to the semi-finals as they finished 5th on the standings, with three wins and 4 losses.

After winning against Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the first two games of the World Cup in 2025, India suffered three consecutive losses to AUS, ENG and SA. They then returned to winning ways by defeating New Zealand. After their last league stage game against BANW was washed out, India defeated the undefeated Australia to book their berth in the final against SAW.
