India women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur revealed that head coach Amol Muzumdar had given a piece of his mind to the players following India’s loss to ENGW earlier in the tournament. Her revelation came after the Women in Blue secured a 5-wicket win against Australia Women to book a spot in the semi-final. After winning the first two games of WC 2025, INDW were handed three back-to-back losses, putting their chances of reaching the semis in jeopardy. And this is when Muzumdar had had enough.
How ‘aggressive’ coach brought India back on track
Speaking to the broadcaster after the emphatic win against AUSW, Harmanpreet revealed that it was the coach who did all the talking after losing to ENGW from a winning position and that she had nothing to say. She said that Muzumdar had turned a little aggressive on that particular day and had a few things to say in the dressing room, in good spirits.
“First of all, after losing against England, I think Sir can tell you better. I didn’t speak a word after that match because he was only speaking. So, I think he can tell you better. Everybody took it in good spirits. We all trust whatever Sir says because we know whatever he says, he says from the heart. And that day, he was a little aggressive in a good way,” Harmanpreet said.
Muzumdar said that he had had a small chat with the players, admitting that he did say a few things in the dressing room. He clarified that it was shared in good spirits, while jokingly telling Harmanpreet not to reveal everything.
“Okay, I’ll take over from here. Just had a little bit of a chat with the players. I did say a few things in the dressing room. But it was shared in good spirits,” he said.
Well, the head coach’s words seemed to have done the trick to put India Women back on track in the World Cup. They defeated New Zealand Women by 53 runs in the next game following which the tie against Bangladesh Women was washed out. Subsequently, INDW clinched the final spot in the semi-final, keeping their hopes of winning the trophy alive.
On Thursday, Harmanpreet Kaur and co. completed a 339 run-chase, thanks to Jemimah Rodrigues’ unbeaten 127 and the captain’s 89-run knock. With that win, India confirmed their Women’s World Cup 2025 final against SAW while the mighty Aussies were knocked out.
