India cricket team star Shreyas Iyer broke his silence for the first time since his hospitalisation following a horrific injury in the IND vs AUS 3rd ODI. The Mumbai batter was rushed to the hospital after he injured his left rib and subsequently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The BCCI issued an official statement on Iyer’s injury, stating that scans had revealed a laceration injury to the spleen and that he is being closely monitored.
Shreyas Iyer ends silence on injury
Taking to his Instagram Story, Iyer informed that he was currently in recovery and is getting better with each passing day. He thanked all his well-wishers for their prayers. There is no clarity as to when Shreyas could return to action. Some reports have claimed that he is highly unlikely to feature in the IND vs SA ODIs and could potentially be seen in action only in 2026.
“Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status. The Indian Team Doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to evaluate his day-to-day progress,” BCCI said in a statement.
While completing the catch in the 3rd ODI, Iyer landed awkwardly on his left side and immediately clutched his ribs in pain. It was an incredible effort by Iyer as it is never easy for a player to run behind and take an overhead catch. Later, scans had revealed that he had sustained an injury to his left rib cage.
“Since there has been internal bleeding, he will certainly need more time to recover, and at this point, it’s difficult to put a definite timeline on his return to competitive cricket,” a source told PTI.
