Over the course of the last few days, there has been a buzz around Washington Sundar being traded from GT to CSK as Ashwin’s replacement. The all-rounder, who was bagged for Rs 3.2 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction by Gujarat Titans, featured in just 6 games for the franchise. Now, Sundar has ended his silence on the IPL 2026 trade rumour and has revealed if he is willing to make the move to CSK.
Does Sundar want to move from GT to CSK?
In a video on Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube channel, the former CSK spinner revealed that he had asked Sundar about the alleged trade deal between CSK and GT. Ashwin claimed that while Washington had acknowledged that it was news to him, he also stated that he had enjoyed his tenure in GT as he had improved on both his bowling and batting as he had the time to focus on it.
“So, I asked him about the speculation. He said, ‘Yes anna, I saw what KV (K Vignesh) had said. I even thought of calling him up’. I asked him what happened? He said I have not gotten any information. ‘They picked me in GT last year and I did not play all the matches. But I enjoyed playing for GT and my cricketing aspects evolved too. I had the volume to work on my batting and bowling. The practice was outstanding and I enjoyed a lot‘,” Ashwin said.
As per Tamil news website Samayam, GT have reportedly agreed to trade Washington Sundar for Rs 3.2 crore (the price they paid in the IPL 2026 mega auction) to CSK before IPL 2026. The report claims that the inability of the Titans to use the all-rounder effectively is the reason behind the trade deal. The report also states that CSK has imposed no conditions in the trade deal.
