Women's World Cup 2025 semi-final will see India face Australia while England take on South Africa in Guwahati

The Women’s World Cup 2025 is heading towards a grand stand finish this week. The semi-final line up is the same as the one in 2017, with Australia, England, South Africa and India making it to the knockouts. England and South Africa face off in Guwahati, before India take on Australia in Navi Mumbai. The final will be played on Nov 2 at the DY Patil Stadium.

Women’s World Cup 2025 semi-final: England eye further glory

England finished second in the points table after a dominant campaign. Their only loss of the tournament came to Australia who finished the league stage unbeaten. England started their campaign by routing South Africa by 10 wickets, bowling them out for a mere 69. South Africa will be highly motivated for revenge in this knockout encounter. The Proteas made a good comeback with wins over New Zealand and India. However, they suffered the ignominy of being bowled out for 97 in their last group game.

England holds a significant head to head advantage with 36 wins to South Africa’s 10. England have made the semis in each of the last 5 editions, winning in 2017 and losing to Australia in 2022. They will hope to add another crown to their jewels. As for South Africa, it is their third straight semis appearance. Proteas have never made it to the final before and will hope to do so when they face England in Guwahati.

Can India upset Australia?

Australia are the reigning champions and their superiority in the format is not up for debate. They won the title in 2013 and 2022, losing in the semis to India in 2017. They will start as favourites regardless of whether Alyssa Healy can be fit in time for the IND vs AUS game. Healy was the key as Australia chased down the highest score in Women’s ODIs in the league game against India.

The Women in Blue had Harmanpreet Kaur’s sensational 171 to thank on that fateful evening in 2017. Kaur is now captain and will be aiming that her side can deliver the goods. India have come close to breaching Australia more often than not in recent times and the home support could just be that little extra they need.
