It must be admitted that the kind of IPL 2025 season Punjab Kings had, it was just very refreshing to see. For a team to make the playoffs almost after a decade is no mean achievement, and that happened after the management took some courageous decisions on the auction table last year, and decided to build the team from the scratch.
It is that time of the year again, when the management has to go back to the drawing board and look at the players, who don’t fit their team, for any given reason. So, InsideSport takes a look at PBKS’ predicted release list for IPL 2026.
Yuzvendra Chahal
Yuzi isn’t the same force to reckon with, which he was till a few years back. He picked up 16 wickets in 14 matches, but that includes two four-wicket hauls. That just tells, if not for those matches, he could have ended with eight wickets only. Plus, his economy was a poor 9.55, worst in all his seasons. So, it might be time for PBKS to look elsewhere.
Glenn Maxwell
What do you say about this player. He has never shone on the IPL stage after that 2013 season, an yet has been bagging multi-crore deals always, in the hopes of a redemption. But 48 runs in 7 matches plus four wickets; Punjab have all the reasons to not retain him.
Aaron Hardie
One doesn’t really understand the need of an all-rounder like Hardie. Yes, he can be menacing with the bat, but he doesn’t bring anything new to the table. The team has Stoinis, Jansen and even Suryansh Shedge. So, not needed at all.
Musheer Khan
Out of the U-19 team recently he was picked for his all-round capabilities. But then he isn’t really a T20 specialist and hasn’t even broken into Mumbai T20 team. This year he played only one match. So, PBKS really need to think if they need him next year.
Pyla Avinash
Perhaps the team would like to look at a more established batter as a backup. He didn’t look like, was in any plans for PBKS.
