Former India cricketer and reputed commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu hasn’t taken Rohit Sharma‘s removal as India’s ODI captain well. Earlier in the month, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had replaced Rohit with Shubman Gill.
The decision was taken keeping the 2027 ODI World Cup in mind. By then, Rohit would be 40, and the BCCI isn’t sure whether he’ll be in the scheme due to age, form, and other factors.
“Even if India had not won the Champions Trophy, it would have been difficult. But you’ve got to look at what’s best for the team. It’s tough with one-day cricket. You want to take a call reasonably early to give the new guy enough time,” Agarkar had said.
Did Navjot Singh Sidhu call for Agarkar & Gambhir’s removal??
A viral post on X (formerly Twitter), which has garnered more than 600,000 views, Sidhu was calling for the removal of Chairman of Selectors Ajit Agarkar and Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir, and the appointment of Rohit as India’s ODI captain if the Men in Blue want to win the 2027 ODI World Cup.
“If India wants to win the 2027 World Cup, then BCCI should remove Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir as soon as possible and hand over the captaincy to Rohit Sharma again with full respect,” read the post.
One thing that looked odd was that no source was mentioned. But since Sidhu has a YouTube channel, most would have assumed that he would have said so in a video. Well, turns out that isn’t correct.
The post was made on October 19, and Sidhu only came to know about it on Diwali. He took to X and addressed it. “Never said it, don’t spread fake news, never imagined it. Shame on you,” Sidhu wrote in reply.
