Rumours had it, after the Pakistani team’s inability to beat India in the Asia Cup thrice, their selectors might just get back Babar Azam soon back to the T20I team. Plus there were also talks of Muhammad Rizwan being sacked as the ODI skipper. But then there could be no truth in all these claims.
No Return for Babar Azam Anytime Soon?
South Africa team is in Pakistan currently and are playing a two-match Test series, which will be followed by three ODIs and as many T20Is. But then, as per a report in PTI, a source close to the Pakistani selectors believes that Rizwan, after all, might not be replaced.
“If anything, it would be the national T20 skipper, Salman Ali Agha who would replace Rizwan as captain but even that does not seem to be happening anytime soon,” the source said. Addressing the rumours surrounding the T20 team for next year’s World Cup, the source added that there were some discussions going on.
PAK Team Moving Forward
“There is a move to recall Babar to the shortest format, but the truth is, there is more resistance to the idea than there is acceptance.” But the coach Mike Hesson is more than okay to stick with the current crop, and drop a few for the SA series, to try out some young players.
“Any decision on Babar’s recall will come after he plays in the Big Bash and the selectors get an idea whether he is prepared to reinvent himself in the format; because he was sidelined not because he is not a good enough player, but he was not able to keep up pace with the requirements of modern day T20 cricket.”
