Ishan Kishan has made a massive statement at the start of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26. Leading Jharkhand against Tamil Nadu in the first round match, he went on to score a scintillating 173 from 247 deliveries, hitting 15 boundaries and six maximums. That meant, his side went on to score 419 in tough batting conditions in Coimbatore.
Ishan Kishan’s ton rescues Jharkhand
This is a big shot in the arm for Ishan Kishan, as far as his red-ball career is concerned. He seems to be in the loop of the BCCI for the longest format — getting chance in the Irani Trophy as well, and then also went on to play a couple of matches in England — County cricket for Nottinghamshire, where he returned with two fifties.
Meanwhile, his last FC Test ton came last year against Railways (101), but did not go on to play many matches anyways. Even though there is the presence of Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel in the side, who have consolidated the keeper’s slot, but then performing well throughout the season, could just elevate him into the Test or even the white-ball sides purely as a batter.
Space in Indian team?
As far as the Jharkhand vs Tamil Nadu match is concerned, Sahil Raj scored 77 runs and strung a partnership of over 200 runs. Plus, at one stage they were reduced to 157/6 and from there on, they went to post 419. As for TN bowling, Gurjapneet Singh went on to bag four wickets, with DT Chadrasekar and Hemchudeshan bagging two wickets each.
