Team India is supposed to play two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is vs South Africa, starting November 14.

Well done, Team India, as they beat the West Indies by 7 wickets in the Delhi Test, to take the series 2-0. It is exactly what was expected from Shubman Gill’s team. But now, exactly a month from now, greater challenge awaits the team, as they will face South Africa in two Tests, at Kolkata and Guwahati.

No Indian Player Understands Guwahati Wicket?

Kolkata is traditional Test centre, one of the oldest in the country, while Guwahati is on its way to become the newest Test centre. It has just hosted four T20Is and two ODIs till now, starting as recently as 2017. What comes as a bigger problem is, not many from the current Indian squad (team yet to be announce for SA series), have the experience of playing red-ball cricket in Guwahati.

So, how does it really come as a home advantage to Team India? R Ashwin raised a pertinent point on his Youtube channel as discussed the same issue. He went on to say, that it would be an away game at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, ‘since no one knows what will happen there’.

R Ashwin Expresses Concern

“South Africa are playing at two venues in India – Eden Gardens and Barsapara stadium. From India’s point of view, this is an away game. India have never played in Guwahati. No one in India knows what will happen there. No one from this team has played a first class match there. Only one player has played – Riyan Parag– call him if you want,” Ashwin said.

This is perhaps a surprising move, considering, India is trying to re-establish its strong foothold in home Tests, where they did not lose a series for well over a decade, until last year, the New Zealand 0-3 mishap happened. Yes, since then the West Indies has been beaten 2-0, but then the quality of both SA and WI is miles apart.
