Enough has already been spoken about the future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in ODI cricket, and if they would be around for the 2027 World Cup. At some level, even chief selector Ajit Agarkar suggested that the duo might have to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy, to be in consideration for selection.
Virat & Rohit in World Cup 2027?
So, is it the right move and expect the veterans to play in the domestic competition? Well, former India keeper Parthiv Patel feels, that the duo should. For him, the World Cup is two years away, and it is still a long time away. Plus, there aren’t many ODIs that the duo will get to play in that time period.
So, the challenge is to keep themselves match-fit. “Two years is a long time and especially if you see there aren’t too many ODI games. Like earlier times when there used to be 20-25 games a year, you get on a roll and before you know two years passed by. But it is a different challenge and we are also new to this kind of a challenge. The challenge is to keep themselves match-fit,” he told PTI.
Vijay Hazare Trophy a Must
He further said that playing in the VHT will only help their game, more than anything else. “I would definitely feel that they should play Vijay Hazare Trophy. It is not about setting an example like ‘We have made Kohli and Rohit play Vijay Hazare’. That’s not how I would like to think. Playing Hazare Trophy will help their own game and that in turn will help the Indian cricket team,” he added.
