India had ended day one at 318/2. They declared their first innings at 518/5, adding 200 runs for 3 wickets and ended the second day with West Indies at 140/4.

India dominated yet another day against the West Indies. The Delhi crowd arrived in big numbers on the weekend and got their money’s worth as India captain Shubman Gill scored his 5th Test hundred as captain in just 7 matches. It was Gill’s 10th career hundred, and he ended unbeaten at 129, declaring the moment Dhruv Jurel got out.

Gill’s record-breaking day in Delhi

Gill broke several records on his way. He joined Virat Kohli in becoming the joint record holder for most hundreds by an Indian captain in a calendar year. He was also the third fastest to score 5 Test hundreds as captain, going past the likes of Sir Don Bradman and Steve Smith.

Gill also went past Rishabh Pant as India’s highest run-scorer in the World Test Championship (WTC). He’s also the 10th-highest run-getter in WTC history now. Apart from this, Gill became the third fastest Indian Test captain to score 1000 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja makes merry in Delhi

Ravindra Jadeja had bagged the ‘Player of the Match’ award in Ahmedabad for his all-round brilliance. He had scored an unbeaten hundred and taken a 4-wicket haul there. In Delhi, he didn’t get a chance to display his batting, but Jadeja was a handful with the ball.

The Delhi pitch wasn’t doing loads, but the rough created outside off for the left-handers was enough for Jadeja to trouble the West Indies. Not only did he bowl the most overs for India, but he also took the most wickets. His scalps included both openers, John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul, and the West Indies captain, Roston Chase.

Jadeja will have to credit Sai Sudharsan for Campbell’s wicket, as he took a stunning catch at forward short leg, but the other two wickets belong to him alone. Kuldeep Yadav got the wicket of Alick Athanaze, West Indies’ highest scorer of the tour, but didn’t bowl to his potential.

The pacers, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, bowled well but weren’t given the ball enough to inflict damage, as the pitch aided spinners more.
