Catch the list of Indian cricketers who have scored the most double centuries for India in Tests.

Every budding cricketer imagines himself scoring a Test match hundred. It is a landmark that sets up apart. But if you score a a double century in Test cricket, you are among the best. Hammering a double ton is one of the ultimate demonstrations of a batter’s skill, patience, and mental toughness. Something that is lacking in this T20 generation. But here comes a talented player like Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has made a habit of going big even after his hundred.

It’s not just about talent but about surviving long hours at the crease, adapting to conditions, and outlasting the opposition. Over the decades, India has produced a remarkable lineage of batters who’ve mastered this art. From Sunil Gavaskar’s classical grit to Virender Sehwag’s counterattack, and from Sachin Tendulkar’s poise to Virat Kohli’s ruthless consistency – India have been blessed.

Indians with most Test double hundreds ft. Virat Kohli

As of October 2025, Virat Kohli sits at the top of the pile with seven double centuries, with every single one scored during his captaincy tenure. In fact, he went in a ‘God mode’ in between 2016 to 2017, where he smashed four double centuries in four consecutive Test series.

Behind him are Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar with six each. While Sehwag’s doubles were often tornadoes in disguise, four of them over 250, including two triple centuries, Tendulkar’s were lessons in control, best embodied by his 241* against Australia in Sydney, where he famously refused to play a cover drive. Rahul Dravid, the ever-reliable “Wall”, also made his presence felt with five double tons, including a monumental 270 against Pakistan in Rawalpindi where he batted for more than 12 hours.

Now, a new name is beginning to rise in that illustrious list. Who else but Yashasvi Jaiswal. The 23-year-old left-hander, who is currently batting on 173* against West Indies in Delhi, has already registered two double centuries in his brief Test career. His appetite to score huge runs stands out in him. Even in domestic cricket, he used to pile up massive numbers and it is heartening to see that nothing has changed. A temperament that belies his age. If his current trajectory continues, Jaiswal could well be the next torchbearer of India’s double-century marathon.
