While toss doesn’t really play a crucial role in white-ball cricket generally, it can have a significant say in the Tests. Shubman Gill went on to lose six tosses on the trot, five in England and one vs West Indies, and yet managed to win three of those matches. That speaks volumes of the kind of strong show the Indian Test side has been putting in, after a poor last year in the longest format, where they lost twin series’ against New Zealand and Australia.
Six Toss Losses in a Row for Shubman Gill
Coming back to the toss, Shubman finally had luck go his way, when he won a toss in Tests for the first time in seven attempts, before the start of the IND vs WI 2nd Test in Delhi, on Friday. And after opting to bat first, the coach, and even his teammates couldn’t believe, what they had witnessed.
Gautam Gambhir & Jasprit Bumrah Ecstatic
All-rounder Axar Patel was the first one to come and have a laugh along with the skipper, with Ravindra Jadeja and Gautam Gambhir joining soon. In fact, the coach went to say, “Jassi (Jasprit Bumrah) had even marked his run-up.” To this Bumrah replied, “Miyan (Siraj) & I, both.”
Gill soon joined the banter and exclaimed, “Out of the seven Tests, didn’t we get, what we wanted in 4 of them. Toss does not matter at all, you’ll get what you want.” Meanwhile, Team India had a great outing on the first day of the match. They went on to post an imposing 318/2 in 90 overs, with Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring an unbeaten 173. Sai Sudharsan also scored 87, his highest in Tests.
