Varun Chakaravarthy was part of India’s XI the last time they played an ODI. But the mystery spinner hasn’t been included in India’s squad for the Australia ODI series.
Chakaravarthy had made his debut in the ICC Champions Trophy and had an immediate impact. He took a five-wicket haul while India was defending just 249 and then took 2 wickets each in the semifinal and the final.
Why was Varun Chakaravarthy left out?
Following his snub, Chakaravarthy has spoken about getting left out. The spinner, like every other player, would want to play in each and every series. But he realises that sometimes tough decisions have to be taken.
During the ICC Champions Trophy, India needed an extra spinner, so Yashasvi Jaiswal wasn’t included. In Australia, pitches won’t aid spinners much. Jaiswal is being over him. Chakaravarthy understands that conditions play a part in the decision, and he’ll continue to work hard.
“I expect to be in every team, but it’s up to the selectors. Maybe the pitchers there offer less of a chance. If you see in the Champions Trophy also, I was brought in as a replacement for Yashasvi (Jaiswal) as well. So it just depends on the conditions,” Chakaravarthy said on the sidelines of the CEAT Cricket Rating Awards in Mumbai.
