Prithvi Shaw came out with a point to prove as he scored a blazing century against his former team Mumbai in the 3-day practice game. After spending multiple seasons with the team since his debut, the opening batter made his move to Maharashtra ahead of the Ranji Trophy 2025/26 edition. Having gone out of favour of both Mumbai and the national selectors, Shaw served a timely reminder about his abilities in the warm-up game, providing a preview of what is potentially loading for the upcoming domestic red-ball season.
Shaw slams hundred vs MUM
It took Prithvi under a day to reach the triple figure mark in the warm-up game against Mumbai on Tuesday. Along with Arshin Kulkarni, the duo stitched together a 305-run partnership, helping Maharashtra get off to a strong start in the game. It took 50 overs for Mumbai to get rid of Shaw as Shams Mulani finally managed to dismiss the batter after he scored 186 runs.
Shaw has amassed 4556 runs from 58 first-class games and averages 46.02. He exit from Mumbai came after he was dropped across formats of the game following a poor run in the 2024/25 domestic season. Prithvi went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction as well.
For Mumbai, Shivam Dube along with Tushar Deshpande and Ajinka Rahane have turned out for the contest. India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadxv has been excluded while Shardul Thakur is leading the team.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra will kick off their Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season on October 15 against Kerala and then face Chandigarh in their second Elite Group B match from October 25 to 28. Maharashtra’s other six Elite Group B matches are scheduled against Saurashtra, Karnataka, Punjab, Goa and Madhya Pradesh. Shaw will be plaing alongside stars like CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and former Kerala all-rounder Jalaj Saxena in the upcoming edition of the Ranji Trophy.
