Tazmin Brits breaks Smriti Mandhana record with Women's World Cup show, slams ton vs NZ-W

South Africa women’s opener Tazmin Brits continued her great run of form in 2025. Facing New Zealand in the Women’s World Cup 2025, Brits scored a fine century to put the Proteas in command. It was the 34-year-old’s 5th ODI century of 2025, breaking Smriti Mandhana’s record in the process.

Tazmin Brits makes WODI history in Indore

After a failure in the clash against England, Brits tore the New Zealand attack apart on Monday in Indore. Chasing 232 to win, the 34-year-old was aggressive from the start, quickly putting the result beyond doubt. She stitched a 159-run partnership with Sune Luus, reaching yet another century in the progress.

It was Brits’ 5th century of 2025. She now holds the record for the most centuries in a calendar year in Women’s ODI. The 34-year-old was joint highest with Smriti Mandhana, who also has 4 this year. The Indian opener had scored 4 in 2024 as well. No player before Brits had scored 5 in a calendar year.

Brits now also the fastest to reach 7 ODI centuries in Women’s ODIs. The 34-year-old has reached the mark in just her 41st innings in the format. The previous record was held by Meg Lanning, who did so in 44 innings.

She now has 749 runs in 11 innings in 2025, averaging a staggering 83.22. The South African will aim to breach the 1000-run mark, but will need to continue her run scoring ways.
