India’s squad for the upcoming white-ball tour of Australia has been announced, and there are a few surprises. This includes Shubman Gill becoming India’s ODI captain, Ravindra Jadeja getting dropped, and an ultimatum being issued to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Sanju Samson’s non-selection is also a talking point. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will get awarded for his antics at the Asia Cup trophy ceremony. A Pakistani batter has fuelled controversy again.

India’s new ODI captain
Shubman Gill has been named India’s new ODI captain. Having taken over from Rohit Sharma as India’s Test skipper in May, the 26-year-old has been handed the responsibility of the 50-over side with the ODI World Cup 2027 in mind. Gill labelled the new leadership role as ‘the biggest honour.’

BCCI’s demand for Rohit-Kohli
Although Rohit and Virat Kohli will continue to be part of India’s ODI team, Chairman of Selectors Ajit Agarkar’s comments regarding them didn’t seem convincing about their future. He stated both are ‘non-committal’ about the ODI World Cup 2027 and that the selectors want them to play domestic cricket going forward.

Moshin Naqvi gets award in Pakistan
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will be awarded the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Excellence Gold Medal. The president of the Sindh and Karachi Basketball Associations announced the award for Naqvi for his ‘principled and courageous stance’ during the Asia Cup trophy ceremony.

Samson overlooked again
Despite Rishabh Pant not getting included in India’s squad for the Australia ODI series, Sanju Samson has failed to get a spot. Agarkar-led selection panel picked Dhruv Jurel over him. When asked why, Agarkar stated that they view Samson as a top-order batter despite him finding success at numbers five and six.

Jadeja dropped after Test heroics
Ravindra Jadeja earned the ‘player of the match’ award for his performance in the India vs West Indies 1st Test. Less than an hour later, Jadeja learnt that he had been dropped from India’s ODI squad for Australia. Agarkar stated that Axar Patel is picked over him and that Jadeja will remain in the scheme of things.

Sahibzada Farhan courts controversy again
Despite getting warned by the ICC for his ‘gun firing celebration’ during the India match in the Asia Cup, Pakistan’s T20I opener Sahibzada Farhan has doubled down on his stance. Having returned to Pakistan, Sahibzada unveiled a new bat sticker, which had ‘gun mode’ written on it.
