Hardik Pandya will miss out on the entirety of the India vs Australia series with injury. The star all-rounder had limped off the field in the Asia Cup 2025 match against Sri Lanka. Pandya subsequently missed the final win against Pakistan and now has to watch from the sidelines during the ODI and T20I series.

Hardik Pandya to continue rehabilitation at CoE

Hardik Pandya played no part in the India vs Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup final. He was ruled out of action with an injury, which has also ruled him out of contention for the India tour of Australia. Pandya not only has missed out on the ODI squad, but he will also miss the 5 T20I games that follow. Nitish Kumar Reddy has been named as his replacement.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed that Pandya will now report to the CoE to assess his situation. BCCI expects the 31-year-old to report next week in Bengaluru and continue his return to full fitness. Pandya will have company from Rishabh Pant, who continues to nurse a foot injury.

“Hardik won’t be fit for Australia due to the injury he picked up before the Asia Cup final. We’ll know more once he starts rehab at the COE next week. This series gives Nitish Kumar an opportunity to step in. We’ve already rested him for ODIs. Whenever possible, we manage workloads to minimise injury risk. Others, like Siraj, also bowl a lot, so managing all bowlers is a priority,” said Agarkar.

Pandya last featured for India in ODIs in their Champions Trophy 2025 win earlier this year. Overall, he has played 94 ODIs, averaging 32.82 with the bat and 35.50 with the ball. He was Rohit Sharma’s deputy in the 2023 World Cup but was later replaced by Gill. Shubman was subsequently named captain for the IND vs AUS ODI series.
