India cricket team got off to a victorious start in their home leg of the World Test Championship (WTC 2025/27) cycle as they handed a xx-run thrashing to West Indies to win the IND vs WI 1st Test. The visitors were no match for India’s might with both bat and ball as Shubman Gill and co. sealed a win in less than 3 days. A seven-wicket haul from Mohammed Siraj across the two innings and five-wicket haul from Ravindra Jadeja helped the hosts blow away the Windies with utmost ease.

India declared their innings overnight after amassing 448/5 in their 1st innings, thereby putting West Indies to bat on Day 3. It took the hosts just two sessions to wrap up the match, with Siraj picking up three wickets, while Jadeja finished with 5 to his name. Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav got a wicket each as well.
Tagenarine Chanderpaul was the first WI batter to depart, thanks to a stunning catch by Nitish Kumar Reddy off Siraj’s bowling. The next was his fellow opener John Campbell who was dismissed for 14 runs by Jadeja, again thanks to some brilliant fielding by Sai Sudharsan.
Wickets then kept falling at regular intervals while Alick Athanaze (38) put up a lone-warrior battle. Eventually, Kuldeep Yadav put an end to WI’s misery by getting the last wicket as India romped home to a dominant an innings and 146-run win in Ahmedabad. With this defeat, West Indies’ winless streak since 2002 in India continues while they have also lost the last five Tests played against the Men in Blue, four of them by an innings and more.
Earlier on Day 2, India managed to take a 286-run lead, thanks to centuries from KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja. While it was the Karnataka batter’s first ton at home since December 2018, Jurel made the most of his opportunity in the absence of Pant as he smashed his first Test century. The ever-reliable Jadeja did not disappoint as he attacked the West Indies spinners at will to scorch his way to his fifth Test hundred.
In the 1st innings, West Indies were bowled out for 162 runs, with Siraj running amok by taking four wickets. He narrowly missed out on taking his maiden five-wicket at home as Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep picked 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
