Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Moshin Naqvi is all set to be rewarded for his antics against Team India in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2025. After beating Pakistan in the final by 5 wickets, Suryakumar Yadav and co. refused to accept the trophy from him, and eventually were deprived of both the Cup and the medals. Now, it has come to light that Pakistan plans to honour Naqvi for his ‘refusal to bend under pressure.’
Naqvi to be rewarded for denying India the Asia Cup trophy
As per The Independent, Naqvi is set to be awarded the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Excellence Gold Medal for his “principled and courageous stance” during the closing ceremony of the Asia Cup. The president of the Sindh and Karachi Basketball Associations announced the award, claiming that the PCB chairman had restored national pride. The report states that a formal ceremony will be held in Karachi, with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari set to be the chief guest.
“This is not just about cricket. This is about dignity, sovereignty, and the refusal to bend under pressure,” Ghulam Abbas Jamal, president of the Sindh and Karachi Basketball Associations said.
The presentation ceremony post the IND vs PAK, Asia Cup 2025 final was delayed by nearly an hour after India refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi. Eventually, Simoun Doull – the presenter – announced that the Indian team will not be collecting their awards on that day. What followed was India captain SKY claiming that an ACC official had ran away with the trophy while the Indian team waited patiently. Meanwhile, Naqvi refused to apologise to the BCCI and had even claimed that the Indian team can collect the trophy if the captain visits him in person to do so. The BCCI is all set to raise the matter with the ICC when the global body meets in November.
