The Asia Cup 2025 final in Dubai may have ended with India outplaying Pakistan on the field, but the aftermath has just continues to get wild. Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha is at the centre of it after a statement he made in the post-match press conference, which the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is now preparing to challenge formally.
Following India’s victory, skipper Suryakumar Yadav announced that he would donate his entire match fee from the Asia Cup to the Indian Army and families of those killed in the Pahalgam terror attack. In response, Agha declared that the Pakistan team would hand over their match fees to civilians affected by India’s “Operation Sindoor.” After the Pakistani terrorists attacked and killed Indian civillians in Pahalgam, Kashmir, India launched an full-blown attack on Pakistan’s terrorist camps.
“We, as a team, the whole team, we are donating our match fees to our civilians and our children who were affected in the Indian attack that happened (Operation Sindoor),” Agha said in the presser.
BCCI to lodge complaint
According to Dainik Jagran, the BCCI sees Agha’s words as crossing a line between cricket and politics, particularly because he referenced “civillians and children”. A source suggested that the comment breaches the Code of Conduct and risks escalating into a larger issue. The board is now preparing to file an official complaint, which could put Agha under serious scrutiny.
This isn’t the first flashpoint of the final. The presentation ceremony itself turned chaotic when ACC president and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi attempted to hand over the trophy. India’s players refused to accept it from him, leading to an awkward standoff and the bizarre disappearance of the actual cup. Agha later justified Naqvi’s actions, saying, “If you don’t accept the trophy from the ACC president, how will you get it?” Incidentally, Naqvi is now stooping to a new low, while the BCCI is doing everything to get their deserving trophy back.
What should have been remembered as a night of Indian elation with Rinku Singh sealing the win and Suryakumar lifting the cup instead became a politically charged episode.
