India started as favourites in their Women’s World Cup opener against Sri Lanka. While the likes of Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur were expected to dominate proceedings, it was a surprise package in Amanjot Kaur that put on a show in Guwahati. Amanjot stroked a stunning half century to rescue India from a spot of bother on Tuesday.
Amanjot Kaur stars in Women’s World Cup debut
India were cruising at 120/2 in their clash against Sri Lanka Women on Tuesday. However a middle order collapse left the Women in Blue reeling. India lost four wickets for 6 runs, bringing Amanjot Kaur to the crease.
The 25-year-old playing her first Women’s World Cup, stitched a vital partnership with Deepti Sharma. Kaur played a counter attacking half-century to help India past 200. It was Amanjot’s first 50+ for India in ODIs, in just her 10th appearance in the format.
Who is Amanjot Kaur?
Amanjot Kaur plays for Punjab in domestic cricket having previously represented Chandigarh. The 25-year-old made her ODI debut in 2023. A rare seam bowling all rounder, Kaur has seemingly made herself indispensable in recent times. Pooja Vastrakar’s injury has opened up a spot for her and has settled in well.
Amanjot has featured for Mumbai Indians since the inaugural edition of WPL.
