Harmanpreet Kaur’s Team India sprung a major surprise in the ICC Women’s World Cup opener, as the side left out pace spearhead Renuka Thakur from the playing XI, against Sri Lanka in Guwahati. The skipper though clarified at the toss that all the players were fit, and it was only a combination call, but it is important to note that she is on a comeback trail, after a long stress fracture.
No Renuka Thakur in India Playing XI
The 29-year-old did play in the IND vs AUS matches, and even the warm-up matches, but missed out in Tuesday’s encounter. Perhaps, this could just be a rest day for Renuka Thakur, who is India’s best, that too by a mile. There are more important matches lined up in the next few days.
On the other hand, the rest of the side was on the expected lines, with the team going with two pacers and three spinners. Sneh Rana, Amanjot and Deepti were the three spinner in the side for the day. Charani and Kranti Gaud were the two pacers.
Harmanpreet Kaur Goes With Three Spinners, Two Pacers
After losing the toss, Harman said, “We were looking to bowl as well. Looks (pitch) very good, hopefully we will put up a good score. Everyone is fit, we are going in with three spinners and two pacers. She (Smriti) has always been great for us, hopefully she continues to do well. Today is a great opportunity to play good cricket again.”
