India’s IPL and domestic stars have a chance to make their mark in the India A vs Australia A ODI series. The two teams play a three-match unofficial ODI series before the IND vs AUS ODIs next month. Shreyas Iyer leads a promising group of stars with the action set to begin in Kanpur on Tuesday.
IND-A vs AUS-A: Opportunity galore for IPL stars, Shreyas
Shreyas Iyer has a chance to further express his leadership potential in the IND-A vs AUS-A games. With the Asia Cup just finishing and the Irani Cup also days away, Shreyas leads a young squad brimming with potential. Iyer has established himself as a stalwart in the Indian middle order and with questions on Rohit’s future, these games give him the platform to showcase his leadership. Iyer was ignored for Tests and T20Is, but the 50-over format remains his best and he’ll be keen to prove why.
Shreyas will lead his Punjab Kings duo of Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya. Both enjoyed breakout seasons in PBKS run to the final and could add to India’s growing talent contingent. The likes of Riyan Parag, Ravi Bishnoi will aim to stake a claim for the ODI squad. While Gambhir is not at the helm of India A, his influence can be seen with the presence of Nishant Sindhu, Parag, Suryansh Shedge and Vipraj Nigam as all rounders.
Australia themselves have a strong group of next-gen players, with Jake Fraser-McGurk and Cooper Connolly set to feature. The visitors put up a fight in both the unofficial Test matches and will hope to learn those lessons. With Australia also entering a transition, it is a good opportunity to make a way to the senior squad.
