Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera have scripted Asia Cup history in the India vs Sri Lanka match. Chasing a 203-run target, the Sri Lankan duo stitched a mammoth 127-run stand. Nissanka had lost his opening partner, Kusal Mendis, in the first over itself when the score was just 7 in 0.4 overs.
It looked like Sri Lanka would be easily beaten by India, who have been unbeaten in the tournament. But Nissanka and Perera had other plans. In the next 11.4 overs, they annihilated the Indian bowlers. They scored 127 runs at an extraordinary run rate of 11.1. Now mind you, Sri Lanka only needed 10 runs per over to win. So, not only did Nissanka and Perera do what was required, but even more.
Highest partnership in T20 Asia Cup
In doing so, Nissanka and Perera broke a 3-year-old record set by India’s Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. For those who don’t remember, it was the game where Kohli scored his first international hundred after 83 innings (November 2019 – September 2022) against Afghanistan.
