Wanindu Hasaranga braves injury in IND vs SL clash, Sri Lanka star ends Asia Cup 2025 on sour note

Wanindu Hasaranga suffered a side strain in but braved pain to complete his quota of overs in Dubai.

Wanindu Hasaranga had a night to forget in Dubai on Friday. The Sri Lankan all-rounder suffered what appeared to be a side strain in the IND vs SL clash in Asia Cup 2025. The former captain however pulled through and completed his spell, despite being in excruciating pain.

Injury trouble for Wanindu Hasaranga again

Wanindu Hasaranga is amongst the most vital players in the Sri Lankan side but his availability has been reduced due to injuries. The all-rounder was in fact a doubt to make it to the Asia Cup 2025 and had missed the series against Bangladesh earlier this year. Hasaranga however passed a late fitness test and since has featured in all of Sri Lanka’s matches in the Asia Cup.

Unfortunately for the 28-year-old, he did not escape the tournament unscathed. In the IND vs SL game, Hasaranga suffered a side strain during bowling. The Sri Lanka star clutched his side mid way through his 3rd over and was visibly in pain.

The all-rounder finished his over and received some treatment off the field. He did return to finish his spell, but was hurt and spoke to the umpire while walking back. Whether the 28-year-old will come out to bat remains to be seen.

Hasaranga did not enjoy the best of outings against India, with Sanju Samson taking him down. The leg spinner finished with figures of 1/37 in his four overs, while struggling with pain. The Sri Lankan is by far his team’s best bowler of the tournament, finishing with 8 wickets.
