Abhishek Sharma has done it once again! The opener has slammed his third consecutive half-century in the Asia Cup, this time against Sri Lanka. Sharma has been in sublime form in this tournament and is the highest run-getter for India.
Abhishek Sharma, the hat-trick wonder
On Friday, Sharma took just 22 deliveries to score a half-century against Sri Lanka in India’s final Super 4 game in the Asia Cup. Prior to this game, the opener registered scores of 74 and 75 against Pakistan and Bangladesh respectively. Sri Lanka opted to field first, putting India to bat first in the contest.
Abhishek has been ruling T20I cricket ever since he made his way to the Indian team. Since the inception of T20I cricket, no one with 500 or more runs has a better strike rate than Abhishek. What’s astonishing is that no one has even struck at 170, while Abhishek scores nearly 2 runs per ball. In the previous game against BAN, Abhishek made the most after being dropped by Bangladesh skipper Jaker Ali on 7 runs. The openers went on to put up a 77-run opening stand as the Bangladesh bowlers struggled to get a breakthrough. This happens to be the third highest partnership between the duo in the ongoing Asia Cup, with the highest being 105 against Pakistan.
