India cricket team chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced the 15-man squad for the upcoming Test series against West Indies. Scheduled to begin from October 2 onwards, the series marks Shubman Gill’s first assignment as captain at home. Karun Nair, who returned to Test cricket earlier this year after 8 years, has been dropped. Devdutt Padikkal has been picked instead.

A glaring omission from Team India’s squad is that of Nair’s. The batter was a part of the IND vs ENG Test series earlier this year but has been dropped after he delivered a sub-par performance in England. Meanwhile, in the absence of Rishabh Pant, Jadeja has been named vice-captain while Dhruv Jurel is India’s first-choice keeper for the series.

Jasprit Bumrah has been named in the squad and will headline the pace battery which comprises of usual suspects Siraj and Krishna. Sundar, Axar and Kuldeep comprise of the spin unit, with Patel earning his way back into the Test side for the first time since February 2024.

Five out of the 14 players named in the squad are currently a part of India’s Asia Cup campaign. The team will assemble in Ahmedabad on September 29, a day after the Asia Cup final.
