No rest on the cards for Jasprit Bumrah in Asia Cup, Ryan Ten Doeschate reveals plan for WI series too

No rest on the cards for Jasprit Bumrah in Asia Cup, Ryan Ten Doeschate reveals plan for WI series too

Due to workload management in England, Jasprit Bumrah had played only three Tests in the series.

If Team India manages to reach the final of the Asia Cup 2025, then they play their last on September 28. Post that, the first Test between India and the West Indies starts on October 2. So, there isn’t much of a gap between the two. Given the workload management of Jasprit Bumrah, the question is, should he be playing all the matches in Asia Cup?

Jasprit Bumrah the workhorse

Assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate came up with a clear answer, on the eve of the IND vs BAN Super 4 encounter. The coach was straightforward in his reply, and said that the best XI will be picked. “There’s a game tonight, and we play tomorrow. So we’ll have a better understanding of how the table is split. It is very unlikely that you’re going into the last Super 4 game, knowing you have qualified. So, I’d say it is unlikely he’ll get a rest,” Ten Doeschate said.

Asia Cup preparation for WI Tests

In addition to that, the coach specifically said, that all these matches Jasprit Bumrah is playing currently, only serve as a preparation for the West Indies Tests. “We have a Test match starting on Thursday. So, it is actually a good preparation, in terms of workload management. Knowing, if he plays all the games, he’ll bowl 25-26 overs, with the training and the preparation — which is a fairly good number before a Test. I’d say we are going to pick our best team for every game, and he obviously fits into that picture.”

Meanwhile, the first match of the series will be played in Ahmedabad, followed by the October 10 fixture in Delhi. The WI has already named its team though. Roston Chase will lead the side while Tagenarine Chanderpaul makes a comeback.

West Indies squad: Roston Chase (c), Jomel Warrican, Kevlon Anderson, Alick Athanaze, John Campbell, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Justin Greaves, Shai Hope, Tevin Imlach, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Anderson Phillip, Khary Pierre, Jayden Seales
