India cricket team spinner Rahul Chahar has signed up with Surrey for their final match of County Championship against Hampshire later this week. The bowler was last seen in action during the IPL 2025 where he featured in just one game for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Chahar will join the side for their must-win encounter against Hampshire as they aim for their fourth title in a row.

As per ESPNCricinfo, Chahar was registered to play for the County Club at the start of September but was not required to play in the club’s home matches against Warwickshire and Nottinghamshire. The spinner has been added to the side after Will Jacks and Cam Steel have been ruled out due to injuries.

I’m excited to join Surrey for this week’s match. I’m coming here to have an impact and help the team in their final match of the season,” Chahar said.

Surrey’s high-performance advisor Alec Stewart revealed that the club had initially planned to have Sai Kishore in the team for the latter stage of the tournament. However, the Tamil Nadu spinner was unavailable due to a finger injury.

We had originally earmarked for Sai Kishore to return for the latter stages of the season but he unfortunately has a finger injury resulting in an operation has meant he was unavailable,” Stewart said.

Talking about Chahar, he last featured for India way back in 2021. In 24 first-class matches, he has 87 wickets to his name. He is much better when it comes to white-ball formats, bragging of 106 and 136 wickets from 60 and 131 List A and T20s respectively. In the IPL, he has 79 scalps from 79 games.
