Abhishek Sharma reveals the secret behind 100-run stand with Shubman Gill, says "we still talk the same.."

After Pakistan set a target of 172 to the Indians, Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma rose to the occasion and registered a 105-run partnership.

A 100-run partnership between Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill was enough on Sunday, to deflate the confidence of the Pakistani team. From there on, India went on to register a six-wicket win against the arch-rivals, in the Asia Cup Super 4 stage. The southpaw was particularly severe in his approach, when the opposition hurled abuses with each passing delivery.

Eventually the opener went on to score 74 from just 39 deliveries, hitting six fours and five sixes, to take the team home. After the match, Suryakumar Yadav spoke with the batter, and got an insight into, what worked in the Abhishek-Gill partnership, and what was the conversation like, in the middle.

“We still talk the same in the middle, what we used to talk in the U-12 days, since we know each other so well. I know when and what shot he’s going to play and vice versa. We have a great understanding, and just eye gestures are enough,” Abhishek told Surya, in a video uploaded by BCCI.tv.

Suryakumar Yadav Jokes About Opposite Duo

Surya joked about Shubman liking quick singles, and Abhishek preferring boundaries. To this the batter responded, “I’ve told him (about tight singles), to just let me know in advance, so that I’m also ready. You just can’t anticipate a soft-hand stroke from him, the way he plays. I’m working on that coordination with him.”

Asked about prolonging his stay at the crease and inflicting greater damage to Pakistan, Abhishek referred to how Surya himself guided him to take singles in between in innings. “The way you tell me, ‘oye, take a single’; You in fact told me that 2-3 times, so that really helped me extend my innings. I remember my father used to also tell me the same thing, sitting in front of the sight screen.”
