Sri Lanka have been a revelation in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, where they made it to the Super4s, without losing a match. Now, they start the stage with encounter against Bangladesh, who too eked out two wins, but weren’t the most convincing. Nonetheless, the fight is now to make it to the summit clash of the tournament.
And for that, Sri Lanka look quite strong. It is only fair that we look at the predicted playing XI for Sri Lanka, in the match vs Bangladesh.
Dunith Wellalage rejoins team after personal loss
After the previous SL match vs Afghanistan, spinner Wellalage suffered personal tragedy after he lost his father. But then, he is back in the UAE for the all-important contest. He has been excellent in the T20Is he has played, and the economy has been only 7.17. The spin attack is excellent anyways, with the presence of Wanindu Hasaranga as well.
No need for Matheesha Pathirana, Thushara doing fine
In the last match against AFG, Thushara came up with 4/18 and looks in great form. That means, the team doesn’t need to rope in Pathirana. Fellow pacer Dushmantha Chameera looks in fine nick too and has picked up four wickets. For an additional pacer, there is ex-skipper Dasun Shanaka.
No changes needed in batting
Pathum Nissanka had a lucky innings vs AFG and scored 68 from 44, but it hardly matters. as long as the runs are coming. Kusal Mendis scored an unbeaten 70 in the previous innings. Perera has been ineffective, but can bounce back to form. Skipper Asalanka’s form could be of some concern, but of course he will be in the team.
Sri Lanka predicted XI vs Bangladesh
Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (wk), Kamil Mishara, Kusal Perera, Charith Asalanka (c), Dasun Shanaka, Kamindu Mendis, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, Dushmantha Chameera, Nuwan Thushara.
