BCCI’s selection overhaul: CAC conducts interviews for 7 selectors ahead of AGM 2025

The BCCI AGM on September 28 will also see the announcement for the new president as Roger Binny's tenure has ended.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begun the process of filling seven vacancies across its selection committees, with interviews taking place online on Thursday, September 18. According to Cricbuzz, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), currently comprising Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjpe, is overseeing the exercise. The final appointments are expected to be confirmed at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for September 28, after which a new group of selectors will take charge of shaping India’s cricketing future.

RP Singh & Pragyan Ojha in line for Senior Committee

The biggest spotlight rests on the senior men’s selection committee, which is currently headed by Ajit Agarkar. Two positions have been vacated following the exit of S Sharath and Subroto Banerjee. According to reports, former India internationals Rudra Pratap (RP) Singh and Pragyan Ojha are the leading contenders to fill these slots.

RP Singh, remembered for his contributions during India’s 2007 T20 World Cup triumph, is tipped to represent the Central Zone. Ojha, who claimed more than 100 wickets in Test cricket, is expected to take the South Zone position.

Women’s Selection Committee set for Major overhaul

While the men’s committee will see two additions, the women’s panel is undergoing a far more extensive revamp. Four new members will be appointed, as the terms of Neetu David (chairperson), Arati Vaidya, and Renu Margrate have ended, while Kalpana Venkatachar has also stepped aside. The only selector expected to be retained is Shyama Shaw, ensuring some degree of continuity.

The junior men’s committee has a single vacancy. S Sharath, who has stepped away from the senior men’s committee, is widely expected to become the new chairman of the junior panel. Interestingly, the CAC itself is in a state of flux, with Sulakshana Naik no longer part of the body. This means the BCCI will soon have to appoint a new member to the committee that oversees selection appointments. For now, however, the immediate focus is on confirming the new selectors at the AGM.
