Shaheen Afridi came to Pakistan’s rescue once again in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. While Afridi has had a lacklustre tournament with ball in hand, he has now twice chipped in with valuable contributions with bat in hand. On Wednesday, the left-hander smashed a quickfire 29 to help the Men in Green to a competitive score in a must-win clash.
Pakistan’s new finisher: Shaheen Afridi makes a mark at Asia Cup 2025
Shaheen Afridi is known to use the long handle to good effect. The tall fast bowler displayed his death overs exploits with the bat in the Asia Cup 2025. Afridi did not bat for a long time against Oman, but made his presence felt in the games against India and the UAE.
Against the arch rivals, Pakistan were struggling to get past 100 when Afridi walked in to bat. The left-hander smashed a stunning 33 of just 16 balls, striking 4 sixes. He was the second highest run getter for the side, helping Pakistan to a below par yet respectable 127.
Against UAE, Afridi once again chipped in with a fine hand. Walking in at no.9, the 25-year-old struck three fours and 2 sixes on his way to a 14-ball 29. Afridi’s cameo ensured Pakistan crossed the 140-run mark. In a high stakes clash, Shaheen’s cameo could turn out to be the difference between victory and defeat.
Afridi has the third highest strike rate amongst batters in Asia Cup 2025. The 25-year-old has scored 64 runs in just 31 deliveries, striking at 206.45. Only Abhishek Sharma and Azmatullah Omarzai have struck at a better rate than the left-hander. His 6 sixes is only behind Omarzai’s 8 for the most in this year’s edition.
