The India vs Pakistan clash has lost its sheen. Sold out within minutes in each of the previous events, Asia Cup 2025 failed to generate the hype. Stands for the Sunday blockbuster were pictured empty during the first innings, a rare sight in any IND vs PAK clash.
Fans boycott Asia Cup clash? Dubai stadium ’empty’ for IND vs PAK clash
Several seats throughout the Dubai International Cricket Stadium were unoccupied during the India vs Pakistan game on Sunday. The game is ACC’s bank in terms of revenue, with the Asia Cup format designed to milk as many clashes between the rivals. However, recent political climate has seen that intensity taken a hit.
While tickets for the Champions Trophy earlier this year were available by resellers for exorbitant prices, the same hype is hardly found for Asia Cup. In fact, hundreds of tickets were still available for sale on the day of the game. During the match, several empty patches developed, further hurting the occasion.
This comes despite ACC slashing their ticket prices for the game. While the lower rung tickets have been sold, it is believed tickets ranging in excess of $200 dollars have been a hard sell. ACC is yet to announce an official number.
Reports suggest the heat is a major factor in drawing less fans. Temperatures have surged beyond 34 degree Celsius. September is perhaps the hottest month in the UAE, with excessive heat and extreme humidity.
However, another major reason could be the boycott calls. Fans in India called for the game to be boycotted in solidarity with the armed forces. India’s legends walked off two of their games against Pakistan Legends in July. The Men in Blue have continued, with BCCI and the Government of India giving a green light.
